Workshop on IT And Future Prospects For College Faculty


Since NASDAQ crash in the US in 2001, doubts about the future of IT have arisen, that have kept people away from adopting Computer Science as their major area of Interest. This resulted in the diminishing number of students opting for the bachelor’s degree in the field of Computer Science.
On the contrary, demand for Computer Specialists has gone up, according to the US Department of Labor. The demand would be even higher in Pakistan as the e-Government has just been introduced and would require a large number of IT professionals.
COMSATS Institute of I.T., being the national organization feels its obligation to explain the factual position, so that the future demand for Computer Specialists at the national and the international level could be met. For this very purpose the Computer Science Department has conducted “Workshop on Future Prospects of Computer Sciences and Teaching Methodologies” on 7th May at CIIT Campus, H-8 Islamabad.
In this Workshop Faculty member from different colleges participated from not only Islamabad and Rawalpindi but also from Wah, Mardan, Peshawar, Gujarat and Jhelum.
Key Speakers were Mr. Zulqarnain Jaffrey, Dr. Abid Khan, Dr. Shahid Nazir Bhatti, Dr. Manzoor Ilahi Tamimy and Madam Samina Chaudhry. In the opening lecture, Mr. Zulqarnain Jaffrey introduced CIIT, CS department and the CS curriculum. Dr. Abid Khan talked about Information Security issues being faced especially using networks. Where as Dr. Shahid Nazir Bhatti focused on Software Quality Assurance in the field of software engineering and development for the betterment of industry in future.. Dr. Manzoor Ilahi’s lecture was about Mining Data Streams, which was followed by Network Lab in the CCNA Academy. Mr. Asghar Hussain Shah and Mr. Asif Munir briefed the august audience about networking in general and about Cisco accessories in particular. The final talk was delivered by Madam Samina Chaudhry on Edward De Bono Techniques for Creative Thinking, in which the participants showed great interest.
Dr. Khalid Rashid and Dr. Sajjad Mohsin took personal interest to make the workshop a success. The department of computer Science feels deeply indebted for the co-operation, it received from all the concerned individuals.
The Workshop was organized by Mr. Ikram-ul-Haq, Mr. Zulqarnain Jaffrey, Mr. Omer Vikas and Mrs. Numera Sajid.
